Moodle investigation for EOT course

October 30th, 2009 No comments

EOT needs somewhere to sit, is Moodle the answer?

Investigating the course options and tools available in moodle, experimenting in course MT 101 on the moodle on our devserver, http://141.163.222.234/moodle/ (UoP network only). Take a look if you like. Play, break, expand.

Modules:

webclass – external – live classroom module

Activities:

survey activity – inbuilt – only allows the selection of a predefined survey from a very small number

choice activity – inbuilt - present a question with a number of options to choose from as answer

quiz activity – inbuilt – multiple question types, editable, looks most useful

Glossaries

Now this is a very nice feature. Glossaries can be set up at course level and  topic or teaching week level. The really neat feature is the ability to set items from the lower level glossaries to appear in the overarching one. You could make small glossaries relating to each section of the course, easy to manage that way, but the course glossary builds as an aggregation of the content of the smaller glossaries, plus anything generic to the course that you add in the main glossary. This appears to be a very neat set up.
