Social Bookmarking

Social Bookmarking enables you to save, organise and share your bookmarked pages. As tools are web-based, you can view your bookmarks from any computer.

Diigo is one such free tool that allows you, once you have registered, to download a toolbar so that you can quickly and easily save, annotate and share your bookmarks.

You can also highlight text, add sticky notes and do screen captures. These are all saved back to your own personal library, which you can organize through using tags and lists. Your library will display previews to remind you what the webpage contains. It also displays any text you’ve highlighted. A sidebar gives you easy access to your most recent bookmarks.

You can share bookmarks with the Diigo community; others can ‘follow’ you and you can create your own groups. You can also post directly to Facebook, Twitter or your own blog, or set up an RSS feed. Alternatively, you have the option to keep your bookmarks completely private.

Tulip sites have social bookmarking facilities in the Tags and Notes feature.

You can also tag external sites and view the tags in your My Site. You can also follow tags to see who else has used them. Not all the functionality is switched on yet but it will be interesting to see how the demand and use of this develops within the University.
