Viewbix is a free and rather neat web-based tool that enables you to add interactivity to your videos. You can link to webpages, add photos, display RSS and Twitter feeds or add a QR code! Here’s one I created earlier…
Interactivity can be added in 4 easy steps:-
- Paste the url of your video into the Viewbix Studio. You can currently use videos from YouTube, Vimeo and Facebook, although there are plans to include more video-hosting providers in the future.
- Add ‘branding’. This is a title for the video; text for a button that links to a webpage of your choice containing further information/ resources.
- Add ‘apps’ to overlay onto your video. There are many to choose from, even in the basic (free) plan. All the ones I’ve used above are available apart from the Slideshare presentation which will be available with the premium plan. (I’ve used a free trial for the above example, available until 18th December 2011). Just to note, you can drag items in the ‘List’ app into whatever order you like.
- Publish and share via Facebook, Twitter or email, or embed into your own webpage.
This has fantastic implications for podcasts and could be used as a means for students to creatively present their coursework. At the time of writing it doesn’t look like we can use it with UPmedia videos (unfortunately I can’t test this at the moment as embedding has been disabled!) but the company are looking to expand this area.
